‘Tis the season to be breeding bees!
We are offering our renowned queen rearing short course on July 16-17, 2016. Students come from all over the nation to learn and share intricacies of finding, propagating and sharing quality honeybee stock lines.
The two day course covers everything essential for selecting and rearing quality queen honeybees. From selection of breeders and record keeping, to the art of grafting and harvesting of queens.
Instructors Melanie Kirby and Mark Spitzig have each been keeping bees professionally for 20 years. Together, their combined experience rearing queens spans over 20 years. From working for other professional queen rearers and producers, to running their own small-scale queen bee breeding farm, they are committed to sharing and teaching the basics for all experience levels of pollinator stewards.
Class takes place at the “kiss of the forests” where the Pecos, Santa Fe and Carson National Forests converge in the majestic Sangre de Cristo range of the southern Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico- USA.
Cost is $200 and includes instruction, manual, grafting tool, grafting cups, cages and other accessories.
