Thank you for this article discussing the merits of BOTH top bar and Langstroth hives. I am a bee keeping novice, and find myself embroiled (unknowingly!) in the middle of a heated competition between top bar enthusiasts and Langstroth Only beekeepers, and me not really knowing anything about anything, yet! I have two top bar hives that I am just getting populated this spring 2010, and really appreciated reading your informed discussion about both types of frames and their relative merits and drawbacks. I'm a vegan and organic gardener, and plan to relate to my bees in much the same way I inhabit my lifestyle, helping my bees to be hearty and healthy, not medicating and support feeding them, only if really needed. I enjoyed the perspective presented on your website and article as being of a similar view. Thanks for the info, and I'd love to find out more about the marriage of top bar and Langstroth hive technology as an integrated system!
